I experienced an Ethiopian New Year’s Day gathering. I had the opportunity to visit Dr Fitsum’s family for their New Year’s gathering. The Ethiopian New Year is 11 September, but this year the 11th coincided with Fasting Day on Wednesday and Friday, so we had a festive meal on the following day, the 12th. We had raw meats and injera, which gave me a taste of Ethiopian culture. The food is so delicious when dipped in a unique sauce with lots of spices. While the adults were drinking and talking, the children gathered around to play games. That’s why I felt some similarities with my relatives’ New Year’s gatherings.
