On Friday, January 24, the “MNGD Project Public Lecture” was held for the general public including high school and university students. More than 40 participants attended the event at the Center for African Area Studies at Kyoto University, while an additional 50 joined online, bringing the total number of participants to nearly 100.
The lecture was structured into two parts. In the first part, the team leaders responsible for Component 1, 2, and 3 of the project provided clear explanations of their research, activities, and findings. By sharing specific details of the project’s initiatives, they successfully engaged participants and generated significant interest.
In the second part, a round-table talk was held between Prof. Makoto Kimura (Professor Emeritus, Kyoto Univeristy), the project leader, and Prof. Masayoshi Shigeta (Professor Emeritus, Kyoto Univeristy), the project sub-leader. The discussion covered discoveries made through road-building activities in Africa, newly identified challenges, and the next set of questions that emerged from the experiences. They also shared key messages they wanted to convey to the audience through their activities.

At the end of the lecture, it was emphasized that the project’s initiatives would continue moving forward. The event concluded with a sense of great anticipation among the participants. The MNGD Project will continue its efforts to achieve further results in the future.
