Every year in mid-August, there is a festival of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church, celebrating the New Year ahead of the one coming in September.
Among them, the song “Hoyahoyah” is famous locally. Hoyahoyah is like Halloween in Europe, but it is a little different. The song is sung only by children, and it is customary for the listeners to give money to the children who sing it. At other times, it is not money, but a gift of some kind.
Just on Sunday, when I was walking around the city after the experiment, I ran into some children and I had to give them my money…
