Keynote Lecture by Prof. Kimura at AASTU

The 7th Annual Research Conference “Science, Technology and Innovation for Industry” was held at Addis Ababa Science and Technology University on May 4-5, 2023. Prof. Kimura, the Principal Investigator of our project, was invited to the conference and provided a keynote lecture titled “New technology thinking from a different angle for the Foundation of Structures” at the conference. He explained that “thinking from a different angle” is an important perspective in innovation. In response to the collapse of many concrete viaducts on expressways after the Great Hanshin Earthquake, he introduced the development of technology to construct piers with a structure that absorbs swaying rather than resists it, as well as other examples of technology development by Japanese venture companies.

Prof. Kimura, who has visited more than 20 African countries, starting with a bicycle trip across the Sahara Desert when he was a student, also introduced his current activities around the world to improve road conditions using Do-nou method. He sent the message to Ethiopian researchers at AASTU, “Please integrate high-tech, low-tech and middle-tech to develop a good country. His humorous lecture occasionally caused laughter in the audience, and was very well received by the president and vice president of AASTU, as well as faculty members and students.
